Cricket Players needed for 2007 now!

Seaham Harbour Cricket Club are already looking for new players for the 2007 season. The last few games this season have shown that despite improving the 1st XI sqaud by adding some good players to last years side in Paras Dogra, Simon Brown and Gavin Keen the club are still short of 1st XI players when work commitments, holidays and injuries kick in.

The 2nd XI have had a difficult season and had to play too many juniors too early and although the club are thankful for their support we need to recruit more senior or older junior players to play 2nd team cricket. This will hopefully make the 2nd XI more competitive and help younger juniors with their cricket development by playing them at an appropriate level for their ability.

While captains have not been selected for the next season (will be selected after clubs AGM) many in the club hope that current captains Martin Gill and Ian Dawson will be in charge of the 1st XI and 2nd XI respectively.

There have been discussions in committee about whether or not the club should have a 3rd XI next season due to a number of reasons and the committee would like to hear from those players who would be interested in playing 3rd XI cricket next year to help with the decision. Although no decision will be made befoere the clubs AGM (or after if it is not tabled as a item on the agenda).

The club would also be interested in junior players joining the club at U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18 level.

"A holiday abroad is sometimes a way of realising how fortunate we are. Although some may complain about our lot in life, we are quite well off when compared with others.

"On a recent holiday to Goa, India, the contrasts between the standards of living were starkly demonstrated. The gulf between the rich and poor is immense. Multi-millionaires living in close proximity to families who reside in tents beside the road-side, with their worldly possessions kept in bags.

"Before we left Goa, Regan and I donated some clothing and toiletries and medication for the benefit of a childrens' charity called El-Shaddai Street Child Rescue. Tommy Hadden XI V Rugby Club Boys 2006

The annual game between Tommy's boys against the Rugby Club takes place Sunday 23rd July (1.00pm?). The current score is 3-3 in the series and the winner of this game will have the 'pride' of leading the series for the forthcoming year.

The weather is expected to be glorious and the club hope there will be a good turnout of players, umpires, scores, bar staff etc.

Charity Cricket Match - Tuesday 15th August

Seaham Harbour CC are holding a charity cricket match on Tuesday 15th August in support of The Dickie Bird Foundation. The game will commence at 1.30pm but more detailed information will be available soon.

The days events will include two bouncy castles (one for under 5's), bowling speed machine, catching net, raffles, quiz and an opportunity to meet and talk to Dickie Bird M.B.E.

With the season only one game old it is obvious that we are going to struggle to field two sides on a Saturday due to the lack of players available on a regular basis.

The committee fully appreciates the commitments of players outside of cricket and thanks them for the time they can give to the club but in our quest to field two sides on a Saturday and different players (than those that play weekend cricket) for 3rd team cricket, we would welcome new players to the club.

The committee at Seaham Harbour Cricket Club would like to wish all members a happy new year for 2006. Hopefully, it will be a good year for SHCC.

Please remember that in 2006 we will be making use of both websites so please check them for information about your club.

New captains have been appointed to both 1st and 2nd teams this season and we wish them all the best. Martin Gill has been appointed to the role of 1st team captain and Tom Lumsdon takes up what is possibly the hardest job in the club, captaining the 2nd team.

Adam Young takes on the role of 3rd team captain again this season.

A new junior committee is in the process of being set up to focus on junior cricket. This will include junior coaches, junior managers, parents/guardians or anyone with an interest in junior cricket.

The club intend to field two junior teams this year at U13 and U11 level.

We will also hopefully be starting the 2006 season having achieved clubmark status.

I know there is a lot going on in the club at the moment that isn't logged on here. Why? Well it is quite simple, nobody is bothering to put themselves out a little bit to inform members of what is happening at the the club.

Perhaps if we appoint a volunteer who will look after website administration then there won't be a problem? Until then it needs everyone to post information about events at the club they are running so it takes the burden off me, allowing me to concentrate on the club achieving Clubmark. (an updated website helps to achieve Clubmark)

To post information on here you need to complete a membership form which you cna get from behind the bar in the club. There is a space of these forms to include your email address. Once I have your email address I can send to details of how to post to this blog.

David Thompson has announced that tomorrows games against Marsden Cricket Club will be his last in charge. The committee would like to thank David for his services to the club and wish him all the best against Marsden.

David will still continue to play cricket in 2006, which is good news for whoever takes over the captaincy. Nominations for all captains and roles on the committee for the forthcoming year will need to be placed on the clubs noticeboard prior to the clubs AGM in October.

DSL U15's v NTSL U15's

Durham Senior League U15's v North Tyneside Senior League U15's

Seaham Harbour Cricket Club played host to an U15 inter league match between the Durham Senior League and the North Tyneside Senior League.

A very good game of cricket was witnessed by all spectators as North Tyneside Senior League were bowled out just short of their 35 overs for a total of 149 (M Young 46, O Gwyn 2-19, L Mallerburn 2-2).

The reply from Durham Senior League with the bat looked encouraging early in their innings as the two opening batsmen looked solid but after a couple of wickets fell it looked like they might just fall short of the required total. With about 10-12 overs to go the run rate was just over 6 an over, and despite a few more wickets having falling, after a good over from the Durham Senior League (inc. four 4's in the over) it looked like they might just win it.

North Tyneside Senior League hit back with a superb bowling spell, which including a maiden, and the game was really in the balance.

In the end, it came down to the last ball of the game, with the scores tied Durham Senior League needed 1 run to win but unfornately they didn't get it and a batsmen was run out on the last ball with the score 149-9 (O Steadman 37, N Jones 40, G SCott 3-18, T Cant 2-13).

Both sets of players played the game in the spirit of the game and after such a wonderful game and the fine behaviour of both sets of players Seaham Harbour Cricket Club would welcome another Durham Senior League side back at New Drive again next year.

500 runs at Seaham Harbour

What an excting game of cricket by Seaham Harbour Cricket Club and Felling Cricket Club at the weekend. Some fine batting from Felling saw them reach a total of 250/4 dec. and pretty much favourites to win.

However, Seaham Harbour had other ideas and Matty Young quickly got started and fired a quick 30 in about 5 overs. Another quick wicket and Felling were on top but David Thompson provided support to David Leslie (141 not out) and with the fall of his wicket Martin Gill (41 not out) took over and it looked like Martin and David were going to get a win for the Harbour lads.

With the last ball of the match Seaham Harbour needed 3 to win but only managed 2 to end the day on 250-3

Well done Jack Lacey who took is 1st hatrick with his first 3 balls during the Under 11's junior game against Burnmoor Cricket Club on Wednesday night

The Under 11 team won their 4th game this season against Burnmoor CC and have had a good season. In a few games they have lost the scores have been close.

Some of the lads will be moving up to U13 cricket next year and with more U11 juniors joining the club the committee are please with the progress of the junior set up.

Members Subscription

7. Any person on ceasing to be a member of the Club shall forfeit all right to and claim upon the Club, its property and funds.

Election of Members

8. The rights duties and privileges of a member shall not be transferable.

9. The members shall communicate any change of address to the Secretary.

Votes for Members

10. Every member other than a junior shall have one vote and no more. No member shall be entitled to vote at any meeting unless all moneys due from him to the Club have been paid. Votes must be given personally and not by proxy.

Clubroom

11. No payment for the excisable articles or liquor on sale in the club-room shall:

a) Be received from any person not being a member of the Club. If any such person shall make or tender payment as such, they shall be forthwith expelled from the Club premises, and the member introducing such person may be expelled from the Club.

b) Intoxicating liquor shall not be supplied to members on the Club premises otherwise than by or on behalf of the Club, and any member committing a breach of this rule or aiding and abetting or conniving at such breach shall, upon proof thereof, be suspended from entering the Club premises for such period not exceeding one month as the Executive Committee shall determine.

12.

a) The proceeds of the sale of refreshments shall be carried to the credit of the club funds for the benefit of the Club generally, and no individual servant or other person shall derive any advantage form the sale thereof.

b) The hours for supply of intoxicating liquor shall be the general licensing hours except so far as lawfully amended by the Executive Committee.

Visitors

13. Every member shall be permitted periodically to introduce two friends as visitors to the clubroom, but the same visitors shall not be admitted more than four times within a period of one calendar month, unless special consent is obtained from the Committee.

The names of the visitors and the member by whom they have been introduced shall be written in the visitors' book kept for that purpose.

14. No person who has been expelled or who having been a candidate for election, has been rejected from membership of the Club, or who is indebted to it, shall be allowed to make use of the facilities of the Club.

15. All members of any opposing Club shall for the actual day on which such club matches be played on the ground at Seaham Harbour Cricket Club be regarded as temporary members of the Club and shall be entitled to all the privileges of the Club other than those of voting or introducing visitors or guests, but including the right to be sold intoxicating liquor for consumption on the premises.

16. No gambling, betting, drunkenness, bad language or disorderly conduct shall be permitted on the club premises. Any infringement of this rule will render the member offending liable to expulsion from the Club. It shall be the duty of any member of the Club to take every available means for putting stop to the offences in question, and to report them forthwith to the Committee through the Secretary.

17. The Club room will be open daily at 11am except Christmas Day and Good Friday, when it will be closed, and on all other days it shall be closed at 12 midnight.

The Committee shall have the power or curtail or extend the above opening times on special occasions, by resolution of the committee which shall be exhibited on the club notice board, specifying the nature of such occasion.

18. Upon making the first application for a Club Registration Certificate the Club hereby instructs William Whiteman Solicitor of the Supreme Court that he may with the consent of the Chairman or Secretary give such undertakings to the Magistrates' Court as they shall in the interest of the Club consider fit including undertakings as to the conduct of the Club and as to the alteration of any rule or bye-law and any such undertaking shall be binding on the Club forthwith and shall be strictly executed.

19. The Sub-Committee appointed shall have the management, subject to the control of the Executive Committee, of all matters relative to the respective business for which they are constituted and necessary for the conduct thereof.

20. The meetings of the above Sub-Committee shall be held at such times and places as the Sub-Committee shall appoint. And one half of there members shall form a quorum.

General

21. The colours of the Club shall be Mauve and Old Gold.

22. Tickets of membership shall be produced whenever required and shall entitle the member to admission to the ground and premises of the Club on all occasions, except as may be specifically accepted by the Executive Committee or the above rules.

23. Any member wilfully breaking any of these Rules, or acting in a manner calculated, in the opinion of the Executive Committee to prejudice the interests of the Club, may be expelled after due warning.

24. Applications by a member or members for exclusive use of any portion of the ground, when not otherwise required for club purposes, must be made in writing a reasonable time beforehand to the Secretary and shall be granted subject to the consent of the Executive Committee.

25. No member is allowed to censure any club servant but is requested to report any complaint to the Executive Committee, who shall investigate the same.

26. Any member who has a complaint or suggestion to make must do so in writing to the Honorary Secretary, who will bring it before the Executive Committee at their next meeting.

27. All persons visiting the ground are admitted subject to all Bye-Laws and Regulations.

Club Room

28. Such refreshments and at such tariff as the Committee may determine shall be supplied to the members.

29. All members are required to pay every expense they incur in the Club before leaving the premises.

30. Any person damaging the furniture or other property of the Club shall make good the same to the satisfaction of the Committee.

SEAHAM HARBOUR CRICKET CLUB is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well being of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with their respective junior manager or any of the clubs coaches.

· As a member of SEAHAM HARBOUR CRICKET CLUB you are expected to abide by the following junior club rules:

· All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.

· All members must respect opponents.

· Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.

· Members must wear suitable kit – [SPORTSWEAR] – for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.

· Members must pay any fees for training or events promptly.

· Junior members are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions.

· Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.

· Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation. Is there danger of further injuries?

· Listen to what the injured person is saying.

· Alert the first aider who should take appropriate action for minor injuries.

· In the event of an injury requiring specialist treatment, call the emergency services.

· Deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervised.

· Do not move someone with major injuries. Wait for the emergency medics.

· Contact the injured person’s parent/carer.

· Complete an incident/accident report form.

· Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of performance.

· Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on mutual trust and respect.

· Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part

. Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play)

· Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance

· Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club

· Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover

· Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward

· Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substances
